Rotary Club of Dominica donates EC$71,697.75 to Bahamas post Hurricane Dorian
The Rotary Club of Dominica received considerable assistance from Bahamas in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria and decided to return the favour when that country was hit by Hurricane Dorian on September 1st 2019.
Hurricane Dorian was a devastating category 5 hurricane, the strongest on record, that ravaged The Bahamas for over 48 hrs, moving at an unprecedented 1 mph. Damage caused amounted to US$3.4 billion, and there were at least 70 deaths in the country. Another 282 people were left missing after the hurricane.
The Rotary Club of Dominica hosted a RadioThon on local radio station Q95 a few days later on September 9th to raise funds for the Bahamas Hurricane Relief. The club collected contributions of EC$31,374.75. The club also donated an additional EC$40,323, for a total of EC$71,697.75 to the Bahamas.
