Rotary, Rotaract membership grows
The Rotary Club of Dominica, Rotary Club of Portsmouth, and Rotaract Club of Roseau all saw their membership increase recently.
Rotary is a voluntary, community service organization of business leaders and professionals dedicated to service and betterment of their communities. There are two Rotary clubs in Dominica, which form part of Rotary District 7030, in the southern Caribbean, and are part of over 33,000 clubs in over 200 countries, with over 1.2 million members worldwide, making a difference in their respective communities.
Rotaract is the youth arm of Rotary and is made up of young professionals between the ages of 18 – 30. There are over 250,000 Rotaractors worldwide.
The Rotaract Club of Roseau, organizers of the annual Carnival Princess Show and annual Children’s Christmas Party, inducted five new members at a regular club meeting on January 25th.
During a recent visit of the Rotary District Governor Waddy Sowma and Rotary International Director Ron Ferrill the two Rotary Clubs also inducted new members.
Rotaract Club of Roseau new members
Among the new inductees were the first twins in the club Ronalda and Ronda Luke. The two young ladies possess degrees in English Literature from the Dominica State College and are also both Journalist (another first) working with the Chronicle Newspaper. They both have a passion for humanitarianism and improving the lives of others, and are founding members of the Read, Laugh and Learn Foundation.
Terease Morancie, the third founding member of the Read, Laugh and Learn Foundation, which reads to children in the outdoors, holds a Degree in Business Administration and Management from the Dominica State College and works as an Accounts Officer at the Chronicle Media Group. Terease has a passion for volunteering and youth advocacy. She is also the Vice President and Acting President of the Roseau Central and South District Youth Council.
Shania T. W. Scotland, a recent alumnus of the Dominica State College, graduated with the highest GPA in her faculty, and hold a degree in Geography. She teaches History, French and Geography at the Convent High School, her alma mater. She also serves as a mentor for the CHS COR program.
Siedah A. Charles holds a degree in Business from the Dominica State College, where she also placed Second Runner-up in the DSC Miss Jamboree in 2016. She is a Sales Clerk at Napa Auto Parts and is also an avid violinist.
Rotary Club of Portsmouth New Member
Rudolf Stomps is an Internet Consultant, and proprietor of AZED Marketing, specializing in website development and online marketing. A recent émigré from St. Martin, he holds a degree in Engineering and Communications. He speaks three languages, has interest in boating and photography, and has served as a volunteer firefighter.
Rotary Club of Dominica New Members
Donalson Frederick is a Programme Officer at the Office of Disaster Management, responsible for Operations, Logistics and Training. He was one of the initiators and is one of the lead instructors of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in Dominica and has collaborated with USAID/OFDA as an instructor for HAZMAT First Response Training. He previously worked as a Fire Fighter for ten years, achieving the position of Lead Fireman. He holds a degree in Criminology from the University of the West Indies, a Certificate in Disaster Risk Management, Leadership and Strategic Planning from the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and a Certificate in Caribbean Defense and Security from the National Defense University in Washington, DC.
Abigail Antoine holds a degree in Business Administration from the Dominica State College and works as a Supervisor at Clifftop Cleaners. She is a former member of the Rotaract Club of Roseau and served in many positions on their executive. She is also an avid photographer, having done many photo shoots, including for the Rotary and Rotaract clubs.
Brenton Hilaire holds a degree in Economics from the Dominica State College, is a Certified Chartered Accountant with the ACCA, and is an Agency Manager of Sagicor Life Insurance Company. He is also a Past President of the Nature Isle Toastmasters Club, and Division Director of Toastmasters International.
Jasmine Timothy possesses a BSc in Education, majoring in Spanish, from UNELLEZ- Barinas in Venezuela and teaches Spanish and History at the Dominica Community High School. Jasmine is also a former Rotaractor, having held various positions on the Executive, and is one of the most active former members of the Rotaract Club, providing the members with regular guidance and leadership advice.
